Boston’s Top Cartier Remains Committed to Launching London Flights This Summer
NEW YORK (May 31, 2022) – JetBlue today announced revised launch dates for the airline’s planned transatlantic service between Boston and London. Flights between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW) will now begin on Thursday, August 4. Flight between Boston and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) will now begin on Tuesday, September 20. Impacted customers will be reaccommodated via New York JFK partner airlines and/or offered refunds.
These revised launch dates are due to unexpected production delays from Airbus, the manufacturer of the Airbus A321 Long Range (LR) aircraft. Two aircraft scheduled for delivery this summer – which offer greater range than standard A321 aircraft in JetBlue’s fleet – are on order specifically to operate transatlantic routes from Boston, and JetBlue was recently notified by Airbus that their delivery will be delayed.
Flights on both Gatwick and Heathrow routes will operate daily on the Airbus A321LR with 24 redesigned Mint suites, 114 core seats and the sleek and spacious Airspace cabin interior. The A321LR platfom – offering the range of a wide-body but with the economics of a single-aisle aircraft-allows JetBlue to effectively compete with the airline’s award-winning service and attractive fares on flights between Boston and London.
London is the largest nonstop market not currently served by JetBlue in Boston and is among the most requested destinations from the airline’s large Boston customer base. With service to Heathrow and Gatwick, JetBlue will become the only airline to fly between Boston and London’s two largest and busiest airports.
